From the time Scott Lacy was a paperboy in Munroe Falls, he understood the value of local banking. And, North Akron Savings Bank followed him through college, graduate school, and his appointment to the Peace Corps in Mali, Africa.
It was in Mali where Scott experienced a radical culture shock. Living among the poorest of the poor, he also experienced extraordinary generosity from the people of Mali who welcomed him into their homes and cared for him in spite of their extreme poverty. "They had so little to offer. They could barely provide for themselves. Yet they offered everything. It was very humbling," Lacy explained.
After Peace Corp Service, Lacy was left feeling indebted to the Malian people for his own life-changing experience in Africa. That's when he teamed with North Akron Savings Bank, the Cleveland Browns, and local supporters who worked together to help build schools in Mali. Today, this community development project has grown to become the all-volunteer, non-profit AfricanSky.com.
